This week we made our way up to San Francisco to the Dreamforce conference, put on by our partners at Salesforce. SeaTrees co-founder Michael Stewart will be speaking several times throughout the event about the superpowers the ocean has to reverse climate change and how we are partnering with businesses around the world to make that happen.
One of the big ideas that we will be focusing on is how every business on the planet needs to be setting its goals to become Net Zero. What is Net Zero? It’s really simple. It means your climate impact from doing business needs to be zero - and this is achieved by reducing your direct carbon footprint and wiping out the remainder with certified carbon credits.
Walking around the Dreamforce conference this year, you really can’t miss the SeaTrees message because our Ecopreneurs Episode 1 video has been playing on monitors all throughout the event. It was even included as part of the opening keynote speech by Salesforce founder Marc Benioff. We’re also featured in the Dreamforce “National Park” as part of the Team Earth activation, as well as the multiple speaking slots where Michael is talking about how our SeaTrees program is enabling the superpowers of the ocean to reverse climate change.
Speaking of Net Zero, our SeaTrees Ocean Positive program is one of the main reasons we surfed our way up to Dreamforce this week.
It provides businesses with the means to wipe out their climate impact by protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems around the world - eliminating their carbon footprint.
Dreamforce is a yearly event that brings together the global Salesforce community for learning, fun, connection, and giving back. Featuring inspiring keynote speakers and great minds from around the world, this inspirational gathering gives us the perfect space to discuss the future of technology in changing the world. Tune into the webcast today and catch the final day of events - or head over to Dreamforce National Park if you’re in the SF area. Join #TeamEarth today!
Yesterday was Zero Emissions Day, so help celebrate it by making your summer vacation #OceanPositive by wiping out the climate impact of your round-trip flights!
We all need to fly sometimes, which comes with a big carbon footprint. And, if you fly frequently, flying likely accounts for the majority of your personal carbon emissions.
However, not all flights create the same carbon emissions per passenger. Take a look at this breakdown to figure out how much you need to wipe out to make that summer vacation as #oceanpositive as possible.
And not to worry, we make it as easy as a click of a button. For each ton of CO2 created by your flight, your purchase:
- Sequesters 1 ton of CO2 with carbon credits from either the Southern Cardamom REDD+ Project in Cambodia or the Colombia Pacific Watershed Projects.
- Plants 4 mangrove trees in Indonesia which has the potential to sequester an additional 1.2 metric tons of CO2
- Restores 1 sq-ft of kelp in Palos Verdes, California
- Creates tree planting and management jobs for the villages of the Biak Island Region, forest protection and ecotourism jobs for people living in the Southern Cardamom forest, and alternative employment for local fishermen in Palos Verdes, California
- Protects biodiversity and threatened species such as dugongs (sea cows) and Irrawaddy dolphins in the Southern Cardamom Watershed, protects 700+ species in Palos Verdes, California, and provides critical nursery grounds for fish and shellfish species in the Biak Island Region of Indonesia
So why not finish your summer off strong and get a head start on the holiday season. Click here, select your flight, wipe out that impact, and surf into fall knowing YOU are an #oceanhero.
Hurricane Kay hit the west coast pretty hard this month, and we wanted to give you an update from our friends over at WILDCOAST, who helps us with our mangrove planting project in Laguna San Ignacio, Baja, Mexico.
Fortunately, everyone is fine! Although most roads were destroyed, and the El Delgadito community was hit especially hard, no one was hurt. The state government has helped get supplies to more isolated areas and communities, and WILDCOAST is on standby to help.
And for our little baby mangroves…turns out they will be okay because of the areas we decided to plant them in, and the rainwater will actually help them grow!
We’re happy that everyone is okay and look forward to heading down there for our next visit.
Just a reminder of a few upcoming events we’re stoked about here at SeaTrees:
September 22-25 - Solento Surf Film Festival
October 3 - World Habitat Day
October 22 - World Planting Day
October 24 - International Day of Climate Action
Stay tuned for updates and fun ways to get involved this fall!
