Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22nd. We want to say thank you for your continuous support of our organization over the years. Through the new projects we’ve supported and the countless partnerships we’ve created, SeaTrees has taken monumental steps since this time last year.
And to celebrate, we have some very exciting news this week. Let's jump right in!
#Dive into our Latest Project in La Jolla, California
SeaTrees and the scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography are on a mission to #HelptheKelp off the coast of San Diego. And it all starts with one question, what happened to the kelp?
9 years ago, a marine heat wave hit our California waters, wiping out most of the historical kelp forest population off the coast. And despite water temperatures since returning to normal, the kelp forests have not returned.
SeaTrees is proud to support Scripps Institution of Oceanography in a ground-breaking Kelp Restoration Science Project, which eventually will inform a state-wide toolkit on kelp forest restoration that can then scale up on a global level to help local communities that are dependent on this natural resource.
Spearheading this project is Mohammad Sedarat, a graduate student at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and his passion is, you guessed it, KELP! Along with his advisor, Dr. Jen Smith and the team of scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Mo is on a mission to find out why these critical ecosystems have not returned and figure out what we can do to bring them back.
