Behind The Techniques: Green Gravel in Portugal!

Behind The Techniques: Green Gravel in Portugal!

Who knew rocks could become a kelp forest?!

We’re bringing kelp back to the coast of Cascais, Portugal - one stone at a time

At Seatrees, we support a variety of cutting-edge methods to restore coastal ecosystems, and this time, we’re spotlighting a technique making waves beneath the surface: green gravel.

In partnership with Seaforeste, our project in Cascais, Portugal is helping bring back kelp forests that once blanketed the region’s rocky coastline. These underwater forests haven’t recovered on their own - but now, with improved ocean conditions and a bold new approach, we’re giving them a second chance.
