Learn about the coral transplanting process with Luis and our partners at Raising Coral!
🔹 The divers descend to underwater tree nurseries to harvest corals
🔹 After cutting corals from the tree they are brought up to the boat to be transplanted on the reef. While there they are kept alive in oxygenated water
🔹 The Corals are placed back in the basket to be lowered into the deep reef
🔹 To attach individual corals, U- shaped nails and cord are placed to hold the coral in place against the currents of Golfo Dulce
Golfo Dulce, Costa Rica, is one of the world’s only four tropical fjords and home to diverse marine life, including sea turtles, dolphins, and whale sharks. However, its coral reefs have suffered significant degradation due to sedimentation, algal blooms, and water quality issues. While signs of natural recovery are emerging, restoration efforts are critical to accelerating reef health and resilience.
