Learn about the coral transplanting process with Wally and our partners at Reef Explorer!
- Using a SUP as a workstation we carry cement and sand from the beach.
- After cutting corals from the rope they are grown on they are loaded into baskets and moved to the transplantation site.
- Substrate is brushed down and corals are laid out next to brushed patches while cement is being mixed.
- To attach individual corals, a ball of cement is placed on the brushed area and a coral colony placed onto it.
- Coral predator removal efforts are undertaken to facilitate good survivorship of the corals
Fijl's reefs support 400+ coral species, 250+ fish species, and countless marine invertebrates. Restoring them means protecting marine biodiversity, coastal resilience, and local livelihoods.
