One Year of Building Biodiversity

One Year of Building Biodiversity

From COP16 to Cali’s Botanical Garden

One year ago at COP16 in Cali, Colombia, Seatrees and artist Benjamin Von Wong unveiled the Biodiversity Jenga Tower — a striking symbol of how fragile yet interconnected our natural world is. Built block by block to represent the countless ecosystems vital to the health of our planet, the tower invited global leaders and communities to rethink how we rebuild balance with nature.

At the same time, we launched Seatrees+Biodiversity — our most advanced restoration product yet. Designed to rebuild mangrove forests, restore biodiversity, and protect communities — one Block at a time, this initiative goes far beyond simple restoration. It ensures long-term protection, monitoring, and community support in Kenya’s mangrove forests.

Each Biodiversity Block represents one unit of biodiversity impact — or one mangrove tree planted in Marereni, Kenya — and includes 10 years of support for:

  • Forest protection – Local forest guards prevent deforestation and illegal activity

  • Science-based restoration – Proven techniques ensure healthy, lasting ecosystems

  • Monitoring and tracking – Progress measured through on-the-ground surveys and satellite data

  • Community benefits – Creating jobs and empowering long-term local stewardship

From Summit to Garden: Where is the Tower Now?

Today, the Biodiversity Jenga Tower stands in its new home at the Jardín Botánico de Cali, continuing to inspire visitors to take action for nature. Once a temporary installation at a global climate summit, it’s now a living reminder that restoring balance is a shared responsibility — one move, and one block, at a time.

One Year Later

Since its debut, Seatrees+Biodiversity has funded restoration and monitoring efforts worldwide — all tracked transparently on the Regen Network Registry. Each Block helps restore habitats, uplift communities, and rebuild biodiversity — proving that when we work together, every piece matters.

Join us in celebrating one year of progress by planting your own Biodiversity Block and helping us keep building toward a thriving ocean planet.
