Kelp Restoration Science with Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Dive into our latest project in La Jolla, California, where SeaTrees is supporting marine scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in their mission to #HelptheKelp off the coasts of San Diego.
Did you know that healthy kelp forests are crucial to preventing coastal erosion, providing habitat to hundreds of marine species, and sequestering immense amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere? These ecosystems are vital to the future of our Ocean Planet, and unfortunately, after a marine heatwave in 2014, San Diego’s kelp forests have yet to return.
What happened to the kelp? We're determined to find out! Scientists at Scripps Institution of Oceanography are leading the way to discover why these critical ecosystems have not returned and figure out what we can do to bring them back.
SeaTrees is proud to support this ground-breaking Kelp Restoration Science Project, which will eventually inform a state-wide toolkit on kelp forest restoration that can scale up globally to help local communities that depend on this natural resource. Join us in preserving these critical coastal ecosystems for future generations, watch now to learn more.
