Coral reefs are some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth — but they are disappearing at an alarming rate due to marine heatwaves, pollution, sedimentation, and climate change. In Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, the 2023–24 El Niño event caused widespread coral bleaching and reef decline, threatening the marine life and coastal communities that depend on healthy reefs to survive.

Through this project, Seatrees and local partner Raising Coral are actively restoring reefs using climate-smart restoration techniques, coral nurseries, community-led stewardship, and cutting-edge 3D reef monitoring technology powered by Samsung Ocean Mode photogrammetry.

Unlike traditional coral planting programs, Coral+ Biodiversity Blocks help fund the full ecosystem of restoration needed for long-term reef recovery — including scientific monitoring, coral gardener training, biodiversity tracking, bleaching response planning, and transparent annual reporting.

Together, we can help rebuild thriving coral reefs that support marine biodiversity, local livelihoods, fisheries, tourism, and coastal resilience for generations to come.
