Building a Better Wave

Building a Better Wave

Seatrees is proud to collaborate with Surf Park Central to launch the roadmap to developing a more sustainable surf park industry!

Building a Better Wave: A Sustainability Roadmap for Surf Park Development is available for download for a limited time.

Since 2011, Seatrees has helped the surf industry become dramatically more sustainable in all operations.  Now, the boom in Surf Park development represents a new opportunity for leadership in sustainability.

However, Surf Parks need help making better choices from the moment of inception, through the many phases of construction, and during operations.  Surf parks are complicated and new, and developers need all the help they can get.

This document was produced in collaboration with Dr. Jess Ponting from Surf Park Central and William Duncanson from BAR Architects. Each leveraging their unique experience and long history at the intersection of sustainability and surfing.

Tomorrow at Surf Park Summit 2025, our Seatrees Co-Founder Michael Stewart will join Jess Ponting and Will Duncanson for the panel “Sustainable by Nature: Embedding Environmental Stewardship into Surf Park Operations.” Together, they’ll dive into how surf parks can deliver both stoke and sustainability — including the bold idea that every wave should carry a small fee dedicated to environmental restoration and sustainability.

Expect insights, case studies, and future-forward solutions for surf parks that work in harmony with people and the planet.

And for a limited time, you can access the full white paper below and explore how we can build a better, more sustainable wave for the future.
