Innovating to Protect and Restore Coral Reefs

We’re honored to be featured by the UN Ocean Decade in their latest Ocean Science in Action article, highlighting Seatrees’ community-powered coral reef restoration work alongside some of the world’s most innovative reef initiatives.

This spotlight recognizes our collaboration with local communities and technology partners like Samsung, to restore reef ecosystems across Fiji, Indonesia, and Florida. From planting over 10,000 coral fragments to removing more than 2,300 destructive Crown-of-Thorns Starfish, our projects are regenerating coral reefs through science, citizen action, and cutting-edge tools like underwater photogrammetry.

To be included alongside pioneering efforts like Coast3D Reefs, Reef Recovery 2030, and the Global Fund for Coral Reefs is a true honor. These are powerful examples of what’s possible when science, funding, and local leadership come together for the ocean.

As we face the urgent threat of losing up to 90% of coral reefs by 2050, Seatrees remains committed to scaling reef restoration with communities at the heart of the movement.

Together, we’re proving that coral recovery is possible - reef by reef, community by community.
