Sustainable Surf is officially Climate Neutral Certified!

The process of becoming Climate Neutral Certified was a months-long effort to measure, reduce, and compensate for our brand’s carbon footprint. These are actions that all companies—and individuals—can and must take now to “flatten the curve” of carbon emissions.

“We are stoked to be Climate Neutral Certified as an organization. Climate change requires immediate action—there isn't a minute to waste when it comes to reversing climate change. If every company were to measure, reduce, and compensate for their emissions, together we could accelerate this journey in a serious way. Since launching our SeaTrees program, we have helped hundreds of brands become Ocean+Positive through our SeaTrees projects. Becoming certified ourselves was an obvious next step for our organization, which is why we are excited to be officially certified Climate Neutral by the Change Climate Project.” Michael Stewart, Co-Founder of Sustainable Surf.

How did we get here?

We collaborated with the Change Climate team to measure our brand’s total 2023 carbon footprint, set time-bound Reduction Action Plans, and compensated for our annual emissions by investing in our own carbon projects that met Change Climate’s rigorous Standard.

Certifying brands collectively dedicated thousands of hours to understanding and addressing their climate impacts during the certification process. Each organization works to achieve the same, uniform Standard. This included:

  • Measure: We measured our 2023 carbon footprint at 68 tonnes. To arrive at this number, we looked at all of the cradle-to-customer emissions created from making and delivering our products/services, such as our supply chain emissions, employee commuting, business travel, and utility bills.
  • Reduce: We then identified emissions hotspots and created time-bound Reduction Action Plans to lower our emissions over the next 12-24 months.
  • Compensate: Finally, we compensated for these annual emissions by investing in our own SeaTrees carbon credits, called SeaTrees Tokens, that met Change Climate’s rigorous Standard.

What does it mean to be Climate Neutral Certified?

Starting today, our products and services will all be Climate Neutral Certified for our 2023 operations. This certification represents the trusted, independent Standard for climate neutrality and empowers individuals to find brands that are leading on immediate climate action

“Consumers hold incredible power to shape the economy, and their power is exerted through the actions of the brands they support,” said Austin Whitman, CEO of Change Climate. “With our climate label, we’re helping consumers find companies that are taking action today and immediately investing in climate solutions.”

All companies that get certified must reduce and compensate for all of their emissions from making and delivering products and services. Change Climate works with over 400 companies and their label can be found on millions of products worldwide.
